Over 500 illegal Bangladeshi migrants detained in Gujarat during major police crackdown

Gujarat Police have detained over 500 illegal Bangladeshi migrants during extensive operations carried out in Ahmedabad and Surat, following directives from State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi. The operation targeted areas suspected of harboring individuals living in India without proper documentation.

In Ahmedabad alone, around 400 Bangladeshi nationals were detained. Meanwhile, more than 100 migrants were arrested in Surat, with police deploying 8-10 teams across various locations in the city to ensure swift action. These operations began late Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday.

The crackdown was a coordinated effort between multiple police departments. After detaining the migrants, authorities confiscated mobile phones and began verification procedures to confirm the identities of the individuals. Interrogations are currently underway to establish their illegal status and origins.

Surat Police’s Joint Commissioner, Raghvendra Vats, stated that the arrested migrants would be deported once their identities are fully verified. “A coordinated effort by several teams helped identify the illegal immigrants. We will ensure swift deportation after all procedures are complete,” he said.

The operation is part of a broader move by Gujarat authorities to tackle the issue of illegal immigration amid growing national security concerns. Officials emphasized that such actions will continue across other parts of the state to ensure that all undocumented migrants are dealt with according to the law.

The crackdown comes at a time when tensions in the region have heightened, leading to stricter immigration and residency checks by authorities across several Indian states.
